If you have always wanted to learn but assumed you had missed your chance, here is the good news: our adult beginner sewing classes are made for people starting completely from scratch. Most students who walk into our Subang Jaya studio have never sewn a stitch in their life. You do not need to be crafty, artistic or "good with your hands" — you just need to want to give it a go.
It's never too late to learn to sew
Plenty of our students come to us in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, often after years of meaning to try. Some are busy professionals looking for a calm, screen-free hobby. Some have just retired and want something meaningful to fill their week. What they share is that first nervous "am I too old / too clumsy for this?" — and they are always, always glad they came anyway.
Because our classes are capped at just five students, no one gets left behind. You learn at your own pace, with patient guidance at every step.
What to expect in your first class
Your first session is gentle and unrushed. There is no test, no pressure, and nothing you are expected to already know. Here is roughly how it goes:
- We start with the absolute basics — how to hold the fabric, the tools, and how a sewing machine actually works.
- You practise a few simple hand stitches first, to get comfortable.
- Then you move to the machine and try your first proper seams.
- By the end, you are already working towards a finished project you can take home.
What you'll learn first
In your earliest classes you will pick up the foundations that everything else builds on:
- Essential hand stitches — running stitch, backstitch, hemming and more.
- Using a sewing machine — straight stitch, reverse, zigzag, and how to sew a neat seam.
- Your first project — many beginners start with a simple drawstring pouch in a fabric they choose themselves.
You don't need to bring anything
Worried about buying equipment before you even know if you will enjoy it? Don't be. We have sewing machines at the studio, and our Introduction class even includes a sewing kit. Once you are hooked, you can bring your own basic kit or pick up our Sewing Kit Set for RM165.
Which beginner class should I start with?
Two easy ways to begin:
- Introduction: Easy Sewing for Beginners (RM195) — a single taster session. Perfect if you just want to dip a toe in and see how it feels.
- Get Started Sewing (RM595) — five sessions and several projects, if you already know you want to build the skill properly.

Frequently asked questions
I'm really not crafty. Can I still learn?
Yes. Sewing is a skill, not a talent you are born with — it is taught step by step, and our teaching is built for nervous first-timers.
Am I too old to start?
Not in the least. Many of our happiest students started later in life. Sewing is a wonderfully calming hobby at any age.
How long before I make something I'm proud of?
Often within your very first class. Most beginners finish a simple project, like a drawstring pouch, in their early sessions.
